itssoo.me is our long-term public project for the Internet. We created it for ourselves to serve as a productivity tool and decided to go public with it. In the early days of the internet when bookmark synchronization for browsers and proper search engines were not around, we kept a local page handy with links to access most frequently used websites. A certain teenager came up with the idea of Squares. Why not keep a public page with squares for the websites, then you can reduce the clutter and have something colourful on your desktop? After all, this is the era of the logo.
itssoo.me can be used as a home page or kept on your visible bookmarks. For mobile devices, it is easy to keep a bookmark on your phone desktop to launch your Internet Browser and load itssoo.me.
Mobile friendly test can be done here.
itssoo.me is deployed for South Africa (za.itssoo.me) and our next deployment will be itssoo.me for Africa (africa.itssoo.me). Our objective is to bring Africa together through the Internet. We are on a journey of discovering the web and found awesome on-line shopping sites serving a number of countries in Africa. These websites do not always show up on a search and often people miss the correct keywords in their search. We sniff them out and add them to itssoo.me. itssoo.me is free for the audience and paid for website owners. We have no ads or adlinks.
itssoo.me is built with Ruby On Rails, a little bit of JQuery, CSS and HTML. To support mobile devices, very little Java is used (speeds up page rendering). The itssoo.me code is engineered to be optimal and the entire content of the website is contained in a database. itssoo.me is designed to be clutter free and therefore text on the pages only show when mouse hover is detected. Data transfer is kept to a minimum.
Users are able to register free and create their own home pages with only the websites they use frequently. It is possible to upload your own private squares for the websites we don’t have yet. A back-end is available to track square clicks and browser type.
